- The WD33C93A is a SCSI controller. It is compatible with SCSI-I and SCSI-II.
- It does not support some SCSI-II options like tagged command queueing
- (although it would be possible to use these options) and it cannot be
- used for some other options (like Fast SCSI, i.e. 10MHz synchronous transfers).
-
- The PROTO just says that it was produced before enough parts passed
- the production test. It works absolutely the same as a chip without
- the PROTO marking.

- The -08 chip is more or less the same. It mainly fixes bugs in the -04
- state machine (and introduces new bugs). It is as compatible to SCSI-II
- as the -04 part.

- Both chips are in A3000 exactly the same speed.
-
- If you want Fast-SCSI performance you would need a WD33C93B but a simple
- replacement will not work. You need some changes to the A3000 motherboard
- and new software.

-
- This is possible because of the mentionend bug-fixes, but unless you experience
- problems I wouldn't change the chip.
